Why another flag counter?

Classic flag counters still work, but many have aged badly: images cached for a long time so numbers barely move, plain-http embed codes that browsers block, and guessable counter IDs that expose everyone's statistics.

Live Flag Counter fixes those things. Widgets are served fresh on every view, embed codes are always https, counter IDs are random, design previews never count, and your edit key is stored scrambled so nobody — including us — can read it back.

How it works

Your counter is a single image. Each time a page shows it, the visitor's browser asks us for the picture; we work out their country from their IP address, update the totals, and send back an up-to-date image. There is no JavaScript on your site and no tracking cookie.

  • Unique visitors are counted once, forever, by default — or once a day, or on every view, if you prefer.
  • Pageviews count every view of the widget.
  • Bots, link previews and browser prefetches are ignored.

New to flag counters? Our setup guides show how to add one to WordPress, Blogger, GitHub, Wix and more.

Built to last

The service runs on plain PHP and MySQL, so it is cheap to host and easy to keep online. Flags come from the open-source flag-icons project, and the country list follows ISO 3166-1, including Kosovo and an honest “Unknown” for addresses we can't place.
