Flag counters have been a favourite on Blogger blogs for years — readers love spotting their own country's flag. On Blogger you add one with the built-in HTML/JavaScript gadget, in the sidebar or footer of your layout.

Step by step

  1. Create your counter

Design it on our homepage, click Create my counter and copy the code from the HTML tab.

  2. Open your layout

Sign in to Blogger, choose your blog and click Layout in the menu on the left.

  3. Add an HTML/JavaScript gadget

Click Add a Gadget in the area where the counter should appear (sidebar or footer), then choose HTML/JavaScript.

  4. Paste the code and save

Give the gadget a title such as “Visitors” (or leave it empty), paste the code into Content and click Save. Then view your blog — your visit is the first one counted.

What the code looks like

This is the HTML code. Yours contains your own counter ID instead of YOUR-ID, so always copy it from your counter's page.

Tips for Blogger

  • Pick a width that suits your sidebar: in the builder, a two- or three-column grid or the list layout fits most Blogger themes.
  • Some Blogger themes hide sidebar gadgets on phones. Put the gadget in the footer if you want it to show on every screen.
  • Readers who click the counter see your statistics page. If you would rather keep the numbers to yourself, make the statistics private in the counter's settings.

Questions

Why can't I see my flag counter on my phone?

Many Blogger themes use a mobile layout that hides sidebar gadgets. Move the gadget to the footer, or change your theme's mobile settings.

Will it work with my custom Blogger theme?

Yes. Any theme with an area for gadgets can show it, and the counter is just an image, so it never conflicts with your theme's code.
